Arsameia is the place where the kings of Kommagene stayed during the hot summer. The summer residence was located on top of the mountain. Arsameia was also the administrative centre of the kingdom. Today you can still walk upon the old procession road which leads to the top. You will pass several beautiful statues. You will also see a huge relief of a handshake between King Antiochos and the god Heracles. Next to the relief is the entrance of a 150 metre long tunnel which leads deep into the mountain. Above this entrance a huge inscription is visible. Later the Hierathesion of Mithradates was also constructed here.
